ABOUT

Dawn is a pastel artist with a love of colour who explores the memories of a felt experience, from places she has visited. Her paintings are a process of investigation and discovery which starts with visual research gathered from taking photos, sketching and painting plein air, then developing them further in her studio.  She alternates between building a surface of marks and then reducing the impact of some areas by lifting the pastel with a bristle brush and laying down new pigment. Through this process she attempts to explore and capture memories that have been heightened by a moment of awe and wonder within the natural environment.

This year, Dawn has exhibited with the Pastel Society for the third year in a row. She also exhibited for the second time with the Society of Graphic Fine Art and after being invited to submit work to the committee was made an Associate Artist in June and is now exhibiting with them at Mandells Gallery in Norwich. Earlier this year Dawn was also long listed for the third time for Jackson’s Painting Prize.

Dawn is an Associate Artist with Unison Colour, the Pastel Society of America, and Manchester Academy of Fine Art. She is also a member of Studio Fridays, the South Eastern Pastel Society and the Red Rock Pastel Society.
